This is Brisbane

Once again we're happy to see a new presentation of a hardcore scene, much like we presented ours on the "We support Swedish hardcore" sampler CD. A while back, we wrote about This is Belgium and this time we're moving all the way to Australia to shed some light on the city of Brisbane. Our man Allan has put together a compilation of what the city has to offer. Unlike the Swedish and Belgian versions, this is only available for download. So go check that out.

Also make sure to check out Allan's extremely cool band Fires of Waco. If you have weak spots for Orange County hardcore and mid eighties Dischord stuff, you would probably enjoy a mix of the two as well! There's an EP out from last year, and a new LP is coming out soon. Get into it!

While I am at it, I might as well write a few words on some of my fave Australian bands of all time. First and foremost I have to mention Rupture. Now, once in a while I bump into people that usually have a good taste in fast music but frown on Rupture. The thing is, you have to listen to the good stuff and stay away from some material that might not be very exciting. "Sex, drugs and Rupture," "Corrupture" and "Lust and hate" are the ones you should aim for. All three are absolutely mind blowing records. There are other gems as well but start there. Here's a classic:

After Rupture I have to mention Fallout, who's full length "Spit on the innocent" is one of the hardest and most bylooked harcore records from anywhere anytime. Some of the tracks on it are the hardest hardcore you'll ever hear. Makes me rather mad just thinking about how nobody gives a shit about them. Just listen to the ending of "Monument to greed"... "Who wants your sick fucking monuments to greed? NO ONE!" My old band Last Warning did a split 7" with them, and they had several other releases including a split 12" with Acursed from Sweden that features the best Acursed material ever. The first Fallout material I ever stumbled upon was their 10" on Spiral Objective Records, which for a bunch of years served as a great source of brutal Australian hardcore. They released bands like Yokel, Unit 11:74, Price of Silence and Heads Kicked Off. I followed the label for a while, but I have no idea what happened to it later. Anyone who can inform me?

To sum things up here's another cool band, Heist, that had a couple of releases, of which "Pain is causing life" is the best one. "Hail Ned Kelly" is sort of a classic.

    Hey thanks!

There are a lot more Brisbane bands coming up who weren't able to contribute tracks to volume 1, so we will be looking at doing this quarterly to make sure there are up to date samplers going out.

    Sincerely,
    Allan/What Remains Records/Fires of Waco/Connections
